Topic: Gay rights

I decided this topic demands its own post. Since I live in Finland, I'm only going to make comments on our current situation, not the global one.

Since I am off sick today, I've had time to catch up on the latest news, particularly the uproar caused by the Homoilta (Gay Night) on YLE. For those who aren't aware, Homoilta was a debate between those for and against gay marriage in Finland, and as a result of that debate about 18 000 people have resigned from the church. Heck, I would too if I hadn't done that 2 years ago. Anyway, that figure is larger than all the people that resigned during the whole of last year. In 6 days. Wow.
This makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The people will not just stand by and watch as MPs and legislators talk crap with their mouths. During the debate they showed some survey results on how the MPs feel about gay marriage, and how the people feel about it. 54% of the MPs how answered were against gay marriage, 46% were for it. 54% of the people who answered the survey were for gay marriage, 35% (or 36%, my memory is not flawless, I'm only human) were against. I have studied some Statistical Science; I know surveys aren't always accurate, but if we look at these numbers, what does this tell us? The MPs were elected to represent the people, but do the opinions of the MPs really reflect the opinions of the people?
Another thing that struck while watching the show was that almost every single point against gay marriage was based on the Bible. The Bible says that God created man and wife to populate the Earth, and so on. But if I recall correctly, I was taught at school that in Finland the church is separate from the state. So, that in mind, why does it matter what the Bible says? We're talking about secular legislation; man's law, not God's law. In my opinion the best option would be to leave the church out of this and let them make their own decisions. The state could allow both straight and gay couples to get a civil marriage, and those who wish for their union to be blessed by a religious organisation may seek such a blessing, but the religious organisations would also have the right to refrain from blessing the unions that are against their teachings. Sounds logical to me.
One of the debaters against gay marriage (I can't remember his name) said that homosexual relationships are unnecessary to the society, but heterosexual relationships are like gravity. Well, my theme song has been for a while now Defying Gravity from the musical Wicked. I've always felt that that song speaks to me, and now I feel even more so.

24 000 people have now left the Lutheran Church of Finland since the debate.

Sickness
I've been feeling like crap all weekend. Probably the flu or something. Anyway, having a day off today because of it. It's sort of a good thing, since I have a lot of stuff to do this week: Find and make a deal with a place for an internship period, call the unemployment agency about my cash flow, and call the hospital about two separate things. Yay for free time!
EDIT Just got back from the hospital. I'm on sick leave 'till Wednesday.

Binders
I decided I want to get a binder. My cup size at the moment is C, it's really awkward sometimes. It would be cheaper to make one, but I haven't found any decent instructions anywhere. If you have any, please let me know. Also if anyone has any experiences with ordering from T-Kingdom.com, I'd love to hear them. Their Model 801 seems pretty effective, yet comfortable. But it is about 43€, so I'd like to know if it really as good as they say before I buy one.

Pen pals
I'm slowly making the "gender switch" on some social networking sites I'm a member off. First were my deviantART page (I don't display my gender there at all, but I changed my name) and InterPals. I've made a lot of great friends on InterPals, and some not-so-nice acquaintances. Fun fact: when my profile said female, at least 2 guys a day asked me to love them. Now my visitor amounts have dropped like cow's tail. I'm not complaining though, I can live without being told what a cutie I am, hee hee. But new friends are still always welcome, so if anyone is interested, my nick on InterPals is estronaidd (it's Welsh for 'weird'). I would especially like to make more GLBTI friends. :)

Today's topic: FinnBar 2010

I went to Helsinki today. Our class made a field trip to the FinnBar expo. It's organized by Finland's Bartender and Supporter's Club. I'm a boring chap, I don't drink alcohol, but my class mates had a blast. I only had an espresso; Bad idea since I'm a recovering coffee addict but who cares.
Our group did great, no one was too drunk. One girl from one of the other groups travelling with us got completely hammered and had to be carried to the bus. She threw up on a bench. I hope she doesn't have to pay for that.
I forgot my camera home so I don't have many pictures, but I can post some I took with my phone later.

Introduction 

• I am Finn and I am the author of this blog.  I am 21 years old, and studying to become a chef. I was born a girl, but I identify myself as more of a boy. I'm biflexible, but prefer women.
• I listen to music all the time. I've never been the kind of person to be tied to one genre. I change my playlists by mood.
• I collect DVDs. I watch a lot comedies and action films, but I enjoy a good drama as well.
• I enjoy reading. Books, short stories, both original and fan fiction. I also write some fiction myself.
• I'm a relatively good cook. I love to try out new recipes and invent some of my own.
